Jona Vaughan Home, in the heart of Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu Natal, is a residential facility for profoundly learning disabled persons. Some of our clients also have a physical handicap.
The Home caters for 80 clients. They are housed in four cottages, each with a central lounge and ablution facilities. There is ample space for our residents to live without frustration. The dining room is large and airy and the shaded patio is used both by residents and visitors who wish for a bit of privacy.
The residents enjoy stimulation activities which are provided within the grounds. These activities include supervised swimming in summer, in the specially designed pool, as well as art and crafts in the purpose built activities room. Group outings, for example a visit to the local bird park, or even to the circus, are very popular with the residents.
A qualified nursing sister administers medication and clinical care.
Respite care is offered to families who have a handicapped relative, who wish to take a break, or who need temporary care for their child.
Jona Vaughan is managed by Durban & Coastal Mental Health.
